The morning makes or breaks the day. Every successful entrepreneur knows that. Each day is a brand new fresh start, and having a consistent and healthy morning routine is a great way to wake up less stressed and more productive, being ready for a long and constructive day.

Here’s the list of seven steps to have the best morning routine:

0. Prepare the night before

The day of the successful entrepreneur starts the night before. Check your ‘to-do’ list for the current day and prepare tasks for tomorrow. Avoid heavy dinner and alcohol. Get some rests before going to sleep, turn off your tv and laptop and meditate.

1. Sleep well

Finding the proper amount of sleep is crucial. You need a certain amount of sleep, and if you don’t get it, your performance begins to decline. Doctors recommend 7-9 hours of sleeping every day for most of the people, but everyone is different, and you need to find out what works the best for you. Lack of sleep cause many illnesses and health issues, so you have to take your rest seriously.

2. Wake up early

Most of the successful entrepreneurs wake up early. Apple CEO Tim Cook starts his mornings at 3:45 a.m., Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama wake up at 4. Others, like Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, are part of the exquisite 5 a.m. club. Waking up early gives yourself plenty of time to make it through your morning routine without feeling rushed and stressed. You can work when the rest of the world is sleeping, which means you will have a few extra hours every day.

3. Hydrate

The most important thing to do after sleep is to re-hydrate. After many hours without liquids, your organism needs to drink, and you will be amazed by how the glass of water can improve your mental performance in the coming hours. Drink warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice to kick start your metabolism and digestive system. Lemon juice is also very effective at cleansing the liver as it promotes the liver to flush out toxins. Avoid sugary drinks, as they are not good for you at all.

4. Workout

Working out in the morning not only provides many physical benefits but also improves your mood and increases your productivity a lot. Morning workouts are also much easier to stick to as there are fewer distractions during this time of the day. Working out in the morning is also the discipline. Developing it is one of the most critical things you need to do to be successful. How can you be a successful entrepreneur if you can’t force yourself to exercise? An early morning workout doesn’t have to be intense.

You should also go outside if you can. It’s always good to do your stretches outside while getting your dose of fresh air.

5. Meditate

Meditating in the morning allows you to start the day with a clear mind and will help you improve your focus and concentration later in the day. If you meditate consistently, you will find yourself less stressed and more relaxed. This is a great way to direct your mind towards a positive attitude for the day. If you aren’t into traditional meditation practice, try listening to some relaxing music and looking out over nature. Take some long deep breaths and achieve some mental calm for a while.

6. Eat healthy breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it should easily fuel you through until the lunchtime. This is why you should never avoid eating it. To have the energy needed for the whole day, eat a meal that’s high in protein, whole, plant-based foods loaded with complex carbohydrates. Try to take a moment to slow down and enjoy your first meal of the day. It will make you feel more relaxed and grateful and will set your approach for the rest of the day. Try to avoid coffee if you can; you can drink healthy green tea instead.

7. Check your ‘To-Do’ List

Keep your ‘To-Do’ list always on your desk. Once you sit down to work, the first thing you should do is to go through that list. Keep the most important stuff at the top of the page to ensure that you start working on the critical things first. If you skip something more than a few days in a row, you probably don’t have to do it anyway, so you can just remove it from the list.
When you get more experienced, your list at the end of the day should always be empty.
